Advantages and disadvantages of setting automatic updates on a Linux system

Hey everyone

Updating a Linux system can be got in terms of getting latest software patches and security features. Sometimes many Linux users want to configure automatic updates on their systems.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of automatic updates and how can one best deal with updating his/her Linux system to reduce risk of a breaking it.

Is it possible to use both manual and automatic updates where the automatic updates are scheduled say using crontab and cron jobs.

I have not tried doing that before, most of my updates are done manually.

Yes you can do all of those i mean you can run manual updates, using crontab even though you configured automatic updates.
